Back in the early days of my hobby life I played a lot of Space Marine, a game using tiny miniatures (6mm high?) in large numbers to fight enormous battles. Titans and Primarchs dominated these games but there were a few crazy contraptions that never made it into the larger scale of Warhammer 40,000 or the Horus Heresy ranges of miniatures.
One that I always remember was the Weirdboy Tower (shown above) – a Weirdboy locked in the top of a tower, far away from the rest of the ladz where his crazy psychic abilities don’t hurt his minders too much. Recently I decided to recreate it as an upgrade for a new Battlewagon I was painting.
I made it using Deff Rollas from the Battlewagon Upgrade Sprue, a spare bit of Ork Trukk deck plating and the unused top hatch element from the Battlewagon. I have pinned it in place so I can remove it if needed.
I use it as a Battlewagon in games, tasked with getting the ladz into the thick of the fighting unharmed, which it does admirably! When the Weirdboy is deployed with them (a regular occurrence) I plug in the Weirdboy Tower and stick him on top, it’s pretty stable for an Orky design and doesn’t wobble too much.
